It all started back in 2011 when a young Davis and Hunter Makk bought their first mower. At that moment is when the dream of MAKK Landscape Group was born. They used the extra income to help pay for schooling.  

By 2012 they had 15 mowing accounts but no means of transportation, but they improvised and could be seen pulling and pushing a lawn trailer around the neighborhood. By 2013 with the additional of a commercial garden tractor they were now equipped with a machine to pull the trailer. 

By early 2014 we finds the brothers doing their first landscape design and installation, with that they begin to add to the fleet of equipment, in 2015-2016 they introduce a truck to the fleet (which they still have) and other tools used for snow removal etc. 

2017 finds Davis a high school graduate with a passion to continue building their landscape empire. 

2018 we see Hunter following in Davis’ footsteps and he graduates from Saint Xavier. With the start of 2019 and both fully engaged in growing their business they successfully design and build their first retaining wall with a full landscape install as well. As you can see their dream was beginning to take shape as they continued to take on more responsibilities and their knowledge of the industry was growing. 

2020 the dream becomes a reality with the purchase of RL Volz Landscaping and Nursery. This enabled them to move their business to a large area of land in Simpsonville, KY. With this purchase and new location, they were now able to store plant materials in the green houses, have multiple places to work on and store equipment plus 25 acres of additional land for future growth. 

During the 2021 they were able to double their commercial maintenance revenue and continue to grow their presence in the residential arena as well. 

Now fully organized and ready to make a huge splash in the Louisville market, they were able to purchase the assets of Stephenson Farm & Nursery which included the Garden Center and Commercial/Residential Landscape & Design divisions. 

With this purchase they now own two locations, one affectionally called MAKK East in Simpsonville and MAKK West in Louisville on Dixie Highway. 

Staying with tradition, Stephenson Garden Center and Nursery will remain under the same name with the same great staff of employees that have been serving the loyal customers in and around the Dixie Highway location for the last 20+ years. 

The MAKK Group Companies will continue to serve the loyal clients that have been established over the many years of service to both our residential and commercial partners. 

We will not only continue to grow our business in the local market, but the surrounding marketplace as well when our corporate and commercial partners need our expertise and resources for projects outside of our normal business area.
